Bicycle Film Festival!

July 18, 2011

“Dudey Free Zone: Women’s and Transgender Bike Spaces”, will be playing at the Minneapolis Bicycle Film Festival on Thursday, July 21st at the MIA (Minneapolis Institute of Arts) at 8:15pm. It will be a free showing, so please tell all your friends to come see it!

Currently the film is not scheduled to be shown in other cities. Brent, who organizes the BFF out of NYC, said the reason it didn’t get in to the BFF in other cities is partially due to its length. It’s 26 minutes long, so would have to headline the program, and it’s a special interest piece, so he doesn’t think it could carry a program on its own. There’s still a chance though that he could add it before another feature, and he said if we talk to him in early July, he might consider adding it to show in other cities.

It might help if people living in other cities push to get it played at the BFFs there. Brent mentioned that he’d consider Austin (BFF Austin is Dec. 1-4), since it was partially filmed there. If you live in Austin, it wouldn’t hurt to find out who your local BFF coordinators are (the emails go to “Talib”) and ask them to show it. He also said DC was a possibility, so maybe Neighborhood Bike Works folks could push for that. Kayla said she’d try to get it screened in Pittsburgh… thanks Kayla!

I like the idea of the film showing at the BFF because it reaches a large audience that might NOT be interested in women’s and transgender issues, which is the audience I most want to reach. But in general I want as many people as possible to see it, so please think about ways you’d like to get it out there, and we’ll send you copies to show whenever and however you can. (Bike-in movies in your back yard? Other community events?)

So… contact us with your snail mail address if you’d like a DVD copy, and keep it touch with ideas for getting the film out there or resources you’d like up on the website, which we’ll be working on soon.

Thanks again!

I was at BFF last night, but didn’t get to see the last (few?) minutes of the film? Any way we can watch it online? Or will it be shown again in Mpls? I loved the film, thought it dealt with the issues in a smart but funny, entertaining way. I would like to see it paired with some sort of follow-up discussion, maybe a conversation with the filmmakers?

Thanks for making this, keep up the great work!
