Safer Spaces

Safer space: “A place where anyone can relax and be fully self-expressed, without fear of being made to feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or unsafe on account of biological sex, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, cultural background, age, or physical or mental ability; a place where the rules guard each person’s self-respect and dignity and strongly encourage everyone to respect others.” —Advocates for Youth

Here is a short and sweet version of the safer space policy that is posted on all stands at YBP in Austin, TX:

Welcome to Yellow Bike Project! Here are a few guidelines to help make it a safe space for everyone:

1) This is a learning space, its OK to not know what you’re doing.

2) Respect personal space/boundaries: This includes peoples’ bodies, bikes and tools.

3) Hateful speech is not tolerated here

Feeling lost, uncomfortable or intimidated? Please talk to a coordinator.
